Cabrini Foundation launches $51M nursing program to stabilize hospital workforce across New York State

Mother Cabrini Health Foundation has launched a $51M multiyear grant program to strengthen the nursing workforce across 13 safety-net hospitals in New York, including $4.5M Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. The Nursing Initiative grants of up to $5 million per hospital over five years—aims to reduce burnout, address staffing shortages, and improve outpatient care. The program supports Pathway to Excellence and Magnet accreditation, expands nurse residency and virtual nursing programs, and is designed to strengthen recruitment, retention, and clinical outcomes across underserved communities.
