U South Florida receives $5M for new eye institute from family of late faculty member

The University of South Florida has announced a $5 million gift from Caroline Sue Martin and her son Farrell Tyson to establish the USF Health Tyson-Martin Eye Institute and future satellite clinics. The gift honors Martin’s husband, the late Benjamin Martin, an ophthalmologist and early faculty member of USF’s medical school. The award will establish an endowed chair in ophthalmology, strengthen the department’s flexible funding and create an ophthalmic technician training program. The family’s support aims to expand eye care, train ophthalmologists and allied health professionals, and advance research and clinical excellence at USF Health.
