Billionaire investor Bill Ackman has announced a $400 million gift of Pershing Square stock to launch, in partnership with New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital, the nonprofit Ackman Oxman Institute focused on brain research, rehabilitation, recovery, human optimization and longevity. Inspired by his daughter Lucy’s brain hemorrhage and rehabilitation efforts, the institute will prioritize accelerating the translation of cutting-edge research into treatments, devices, and therapies, while pursuing AI, brain-computer interfaces, and clinical trials. Ackman and his wife, Neri Oxman, plan another gift of similar or potentially greater size. The latest commitment is in addition to the $260 million from Pershing Square Philanthropies used to purchase buildings on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for AOI’s 700,000 square-foot-campus.
