Athenaeum raises $4M for renovations to historic Indianapolis arts center

The Athenaeum, a historic cultural and arts center in Indianapolis, has received a $1.5 million grant from Indiana’s regional development arts and culture initiative to fund a new Athenaeum Lab and stage-to-street elevator as part of the nonprofit’s $8 million renovation campaign. The Christel DeHaan Family, Simon Family, and Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable foundations have contributed a combined $2.6 million toward its goal. The project will expand access for smaller arts organizations, improve the 500-seat Basile Theatre and restore historic features.
