9/11 Day awards $3M to mobilize 70,000 volunteers for 25th anniversary of terrorist attacks

9/11 Day–which annually organizes the federally-recognized September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance–has announced grants totalling $3 million to 200 nonprofits, schools, and community groups across 40 states to expand service opportunities marking the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. The awards are funded principally by AmeriCorps alongside the Popeyes Foundation. The grants will fund food drives, hunger-relief projects, community improvements, veteran and first-responder support, and service-learning activities.  Funded programs expect to mobilize more than 70,000 volunteers, expanding locally led opportunities through 9/11 Day’s UNIITE for Good campaign.
