The University of California, Santa Barbara has received a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation to establish an AI-programmable cloud laboratory at its OASIS facility in Goleta. The four-year grant will enable researchers nationwide to remotely access laboratory equipment for artificial intelligence-driven research, expanding access to advanced scientific infrastructure. The program is part of BioPACIFIC MIP, a federally funded initiative spanning synthetic biology, chemistry and materials science. UCSB joins Stanford, Caltech, and Scripps in operating federally-funded AI-programmable cloud laboratories.
