UC Merced receives Gates Foundation $3M to boost student success and expand career pathways

University of California, Merced has received a $3 million Gates Foundation grant to expand college and career pathways for high school students in California’s San Joaquin Valley. The funding will support dual enrollment, strengthen partnerships between K–12 schools and community colleges, and improve data systems to help students transition to higher education and careers. Administered by UC Merced’s Center for Educational Partnerships, the initiative currently supports districts serving more than 25,000 students, mostly from underserved communities. The program aims to raise college attainment in a region where only 16% of students earn degrees and serve as a model for broader statewide improvement.
