Simon Fraser University has announced a C$40 million ($29.4 million) gift from Ratana and Arran Stephens and their family to support the university’s new school of medicine. The contribution—the largest single donation in SFU’s history and among the largest ever made to a Canadian medical school—will fund student training, research, innovation, community-focused programs, and critical infrastructure. The SFU School of Medicine will be renamed for the family. The school will welcome its first class of 48 students in August 2026 and aims to expand enrollment to 120 students annually by 2035, strengthening primary-care physician training across urban, rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in British Columbia.
