Marguerite Casey Foundation boosts giving 50% to $50M annual payout for struggling nonprofits

The Marguerite Casey Foundation has announced that it will increase its annual grantmaking to a minimum of $50 million per year, a 50% rise from its average payout over the previous decade. The funding will support community-based organizations, local journalism initiatives, and state and local efforts aimed at improving economic opportunity, housing, jobs, childcare, and government responsiveness. The Seattle-based foundation with roughly $875 million in assets, increased giving in 2025 to $130 million by drawing directly from its endowment. The new 10-year commitment is intended to help nonprofits facing near- and intermediate-term financial pressure combined with growing demand for services, and to demonstrate that foundations can increase grantmaking while maintaining long-term financial sustainability.
