Texas A&M receives $5M to advance next generation sustainable battery technology

Texas A&M University has announced that an interdisciplinary team of researchers has received a $5 million award from the Robert A. Welch Foundation to develop a new generation of battery materials aimed at advancing safer, more sustainable energy storage. The project will investigate alternatives to conventional lithium-ion batteries, addressing challenges such as supply chain risks, fire hazards, and poor cold-weather performance. The collaborative research effort brings together experts in chemical engineering, chemistry, electrochemistry, computation, and materials science to advance fundamental discoveries that could shape the future of battery technology.
