Miami’s Baptist Health receives $100M from Herbert Wertheim to expand cancer care and research

Billionaire optometrist Herbert Wertheim has awarded $100 million to Baptist Health South Florida’s Miami Cancer Institute to expand cancer research, treatment, and prevention The gift, the largest in the health system’s history, will establish a center for cancer prevention to advance early detection, screening technologies, and community-based prevention programs. The institute will be renamed for Wertheim. The funding will also strengthen Baptist Health’s collaboration with Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine–also in Miami–expanding medical education, research, and workforce development to accelerate long-term advances in cancer care.
