Casey $3M leads NYC private funding push to compliment state-backed $1B childcare expansion

New York City has received more than $3.5 million in early donations, including a $3 million contribution from the Marguerite Casey Foundation, toward Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s plan to raise $20 million in private funding through the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to expand free child care. The philanthropic campaign supports outreach, provider support, and workforce development tied to launching 2,000 free seats for 2-year-olds this fall. The effort complements $1.2 billion in New York State funding covering the program’s first two years, with long-term costs expected to reach billions.
