Keck awards $1.2M to University of Kansas for new approach to Alzheimer’s disease research

The W.M. Keck Foundation has awarded a $1.2 million grant to a University of Kansas School of Pharmacy research team in Lawrence, Kansas, to investigate a new theory of Alzheimer’s disease. The initiative will test whether stalled activity of the gamma-secretase enzyme, rather than amyloid buildup, drives disease-related brain changes. Experiments in roundworms, mice, and lab-grown human neurons could reveal new treatment targets and generate evidence for future research funding.
