North Carolina’s Elizabeth City State University has announced a game-changing $42M gift from MacKenzie Scott, the largest per-student donation to any historically Black college or university in philanthropist’s recent giving. The unrestricted award, nearly three times Scott’s 2020 donation to the school, comes as the university launches a five-year strategic plan. The funds will be used to create endowed scholarships, support innovative academic programs, and upgrade athletic, residential, and academic infrastructure. The investment positions ECSU to expand student access, modernize campus facilities, and strengthen its role as a leader in educational opportunity and the local community.
