Whole Foods $2.2M backs school meals in U.S. and smallholder farmers in Ghana

Whole Foods Market, through its foundation, has announced more than $2.2 million in grants to Chef Ann Foundation, Life Lab in Santa Cruz, California, and True Farmer in New Longoro, Ghana, to improve nutrition, strengthen food systems and expand economic opportunity. The funding includes a three-year $1.5 million grant to help 110 U.S. schools serve scratch-cooked meals to more than 202,000 students, $123,280 to strengthen garden-based learning reaching more than 370,000 students, and a three-year $600,000 grant to provide financing and market access for 1,200 smallholder farmers in Ghana, increasing incomes and supporting resilient local food systems.
