Google.org, targeting U.S. infrastructure workforce gap, commits $50M for skilled trades

Google.org has announced a $50 million commitment to skilled-trades training organizations to support workforce development for high-demand infrastructure careers across the United States. The funding will help prepare more than 300,000 workers across 20 states by strengthening apprenticeship pathways, modernizing training programs, and expanding AI-enabled workforce tools. Key recipients include TradesFutures, the Electrical Training Alliance, the United Association’s International Training Fund, and the International Training Institute for the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Industry. The initiative also supports 14 labor unions and four trade and contractor associations, aiming to address shortages of electricians, welders, plumbers, pipefitters, and other skilled infrastructure workers.
