University of Iowa launches $10M initiative to address environmental health issues statewide

The University of Iowa has launched a $10 million research initiative to study how environmental exposures affect health outcomes. Supported by a $5 million gift from the Kyle J. and Sharon Krause Family Foundation and a $1 million grant from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, the Iowa Integrated Network for Science, Information, and Geospatial Health Tracking will unite experts in public health, water quality, and environmental science. The program will expand environmental monitoring, epidemiological research, and public data sharing to examine links between air and water contamination, rising cancer rates, maternal health, neurodevelopment, and PFAS-related health impacts.
