Canada commits $30M to Nigeria and West Africa to boost health, climate, economic resilience initiatives

Canada’s department of global affairs (state department) has announced more than $30 million in multiyear funding for humanitarian and development initiatives in Nigeria and across West Africa. The largest award, a $13 million commitment to the 2X Ignite Africa Warehousing Facility, will expand women’s access to investment capital and support women-led funds financing small and medium-sized enterprises across African markets. $11.7 million was awarded to UN agencies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and NGO partners to deliver emergency food, health, protection and sanitation services in crisis-affected areas of Nigeria. The World Bank received $2.5 million to strengthen governance and service delivery across Nigeria’s health sector.
