Loyola Marymount receives $6M to expand paid teacher residency program at education school

Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles has announced a $6 million grant from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to LMU’s School of Education to expand paid teacher residency programs. The four-year initiative will support more than 150 teacher candidates placed in classrooms across Los Angeles-area districts currently facing persistent shortages in special education, STEM, bilingual education, and early childhood instruction. Teacher residents will be paired with mentors and receive stipends to offset credentialing costs with the immediate goal of strengthening the educator pipeline while addressing long-term staffing gaps. The program aims to build a district-aligned classroom-practice trained workforce.
