With a nod to foreign-born founding fathers, Carnegie names 2026 Great Immigrants cohort

The Andrew Carnegie Foundation–founded in 1911 by its Scottish immigrant namesake–has announced its 2026 Great Immigrants, Great Americans class, honoring 25 distinguished naturalized U.S. citizens from 21 countries for achievements across business, science, medicine, technology, sports and the arts. Honorees include Hernan Diaz (Argentina), Pulitzer Prize-winning author; Jane Fraser (Scotland), CEO of Citi; and Omar M. Yaghi (Jordan), recipient of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Marking America’s 250th anniversary, Carnegie also recognized the eight foreign-born signers of the Declaration of Independence: Button Gwinnett and Robert Morris (England); Francis Lewis (Wales); James Smith, George Taylor, and Matthew Thornton (Ireland); James Wilson and John Witherspoon (Scotland).
