U Alabama Birmingham receives $10M for physician training to boost rural health care 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine has announced a $10 million gift from Mike and Gillian Goodrich to drive a new initiative aimed at expanding rural primary care services through financial assistance and training for new physicians. The funding will establish an endowment supporting scholarships and residency programs for new physicians committed to service in underserved rural communities across the state. The award will also support expanded rural clinic capacity and an endowed chair in rural health and primary care. The initiative will strengthen long-term access to health services by boosting physician retention and reducing barriers to maintaining careers in rural areas.
