The Bezos Earth Fund has announced a $26 million grant to the Earth Fire Alliance to advance FireSat, the world’s first satellite constellation dedicated to wildfire detection and prevention. The funding—the largest philanthropic grant for wildfire detection to date—will support the launch and operation of FireSat’s first three operational satellites and expand global wildfire monitoring capabilities. By 2029, the system is expected to detect fires as small as 15 feet by 15 feet within one hour anywhere on Earth. The initiative aims to help firefighters and policymakers respond faster, protect communities and ecosystems, and reduce wildfire-related carbon emissions.
