OpenAI Foundation launches $250M initiative to address AI workforce upheaval

OpenAI Foundation has announced a $250 million commitment to help workers and economies adapt to disruption from artificial intelligence. The funding will support grants, partnerships and direct programs focused on labor-market research, workforce displacement and broader distribution of AI-driven economic gains. Grants will back nonprofits and other organizations, while the foundation also plans to operate initiatives directly, including AI-powered economic simulations modeling industry change. The initiative expands OpenAI’s broader nonprofit strategy after the foundation received a 26% stake in OpenAI’s for-profit business last year, at the time valued at $130 billion. In March, OpenAI pledged at least $1 billion for AI-related projects spanning life sciences and community programs.
