The Jed Foundation has released a report, The Emotional Lives of Boys and Young Men, addressing the mental health of boys’ and young men’s mental health in New York City. The study, supported by the Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health, synthesizes research, social listening, and expert input to examine hidden distress, masculinity norms, and digital communication patterns. It highlights externalizing behaviors and loneliness as key indicators and offers guidance for caregivers, educators, and youth organizations. The report calls for a focus on redefining masculinity, expanding mentorship, strengthening spaces that offer opportunities for connection, and improving online safety. Follow-on public events will further disseminate lessons learned and strategies to improve early intervention and suicide prevention efforts.
