William Penn Foundation commits $20M to Philadelphia anti-dumping and green space projects

The William Penn Foundation has awarded $19.7 million to nonprofits advancing environmental restoration and climate resilience in the Philadelphia region, targeting illegal dumping enforcement, land conservation, and urban greening initiatives. $2.8 million will back anti-dumping efforts involving the Clean Water Fund, local community groups and the city’s district attorney’s office. A $6 million grant to the Open Space Institute will help preserve 1,000 acres of undeveloped land. An additional $13 million will support urban gardens, tree planting, and climate resilience projects across the region, reinforcing long-term public space access. The funding is part of the WPF’s larger 128 awards totaling $57.2 million to area nonprofits.
