WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum pledges $200M to expand Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Hospital

Billionaire WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum has committed $200 million to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel, the largest single donation to the Israeli healthcare sector. The award will fund a new inpatient tower and staff housing, a project expected to triple the size of the city’s largest hospital. Shaare Zedek currently operates roughly 1,000 beds across 30 inpatient departments and serves as a major multidisciplinary medical center for the city. Beyond the boost to patient capacity, the award will strengthen the city’s healthcare infrastructure, and address growing demand for medical services across the region.
