UC San Diego receives $50M boost to launch Halıcıoğlu AI and supercomputing data science school 

The University of California San Diego has announced a $50 million gift from alumnus Taner Halıcıoğlu ’96 to establish the Halıcıoğlu School of Data Science and Computing, transforming the university’s data science and AI ecosystem. The multi-part commitment is a follow-on gift building on a prior $75 million donation and uniting the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute and San Diego Supercomputer Center into a single academic and research entity. The funding boosts UCSD’s AI education, computing infrastructure, and interdisciplinary research initiatives across health, climate, engineering, and social sciences while expanding training pipelines to prepare students for data-driven and AI-enabled careers.
