The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded an $8.4M to a coalition led by Read On Arizona, alongside the Arizona Department of Education and state partners to strengthen early childhood education statewide. The funding will support a multiyear, multi-agency collaboration to expand access to quality programs, address workforce shortages, and align education services from birth to age five. Tied to the state’s 2030 literacy plan, the initiative aims to double third-grade reading proficiency to 72% in the next five years, targeting improved school readiness and long-term graduation outcomes.
