MacArthur Foundation launches $100M initiative to strengthen democracy, voting rights, civic education

The MacArthur Foundation has announced a $100 million grant commitment to protect democracy in the United States, funding nonpartisan organizations defending elections, voting rights, civil and human rights, and the rule of law. Initial grants include the Campaign Legal Center ($10M) for voter protection litigation, Democracy Forward Foundation ($10M) for legal advocacy, PolicyLink ($5M) to redesign governance, Defending Democracy Together Institute ($3.25M) for civic education, Issue One ($4M) for cross-ideology collaboration, and rural and state initiatives totaling $2M. These one-time grants aim to expand civic participation, volunteerism, and inclusive democratic engagement nationwide.
