The University of Maryland in College Park has announced a $15 million gift from alumnus Stephen Schanwald (’77) and former Chicago Bulls executive vice president, to expand the Robert H. Smith School of Business’s sports management program and support a new golf performance center. The gift will help establish a sports management major and minor, add faculty and staff, and fund a 5,000-square-foot facility for UMD’s men’s and women’s golf teams. It also names the golf facility and a renovated Van Munching Hall wing for Schanwald, boosting his commitments to the ongoing Forward fundraising campaign to $33 million.
