University of Tennessee interdisciplinary medical program receives $5 million boost from First Horizon

The University of Tennessee in Memphis has announced a $5 million award from financial services company First Horizon, through its foundation, to support the UT Health Science Center to help construct its College of Medicine’s new interdisciplinary education and research facility. The funding will serve as a lead gift to launch a campaign to raise $50 million alongside $311 million already allocated by the Tennessee General Assembly. The seven-story, 300,000-square-foot facility will bring interdisciplinary medicine to the center of the school’s curriculum.  The program, when fully enrolled over the next five years, is expected to train nearly 1,500 new physicians and physician assistants, helping address healthcare workforce shortages, particularly in rural and underserved communities statewide.
