Lyda Hill Philanthropies awards $2.7M to Cary Institute for wildfire resilience science 

Millbrook, New York-based Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies has announced a $2.7 million grant from Lyda Hill Philanthropies to expand its Western Fire & Forest Resilience Collaborative to advance the science of controlling wildfires on grasslands and shrublands, particularly in west Texas. The two-year grant will develop actionable fire science in partnership with land managers, extend modeling and satellite tracking, and support response and climate adaptation measures. The funding will also expand research into how fire and forest management affect water resources in the Colorado River Basin, using remote sensing and artificial intelligence to inform better decisionmaking.
