NFWF awards $13M to restore Alabama’s Little Dauphin Island and boost coastal resilience

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has awarded $13 million in grants to the Mobile County Commission in Mobile, Alabama, to restore Little Dauphin Island using dredged material from the Mobile Harbor Ship Channel. The funding includes a $10 million grant from the Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund and a $3 million grant from the National Coastal Resilience Fund. The grants will restore approximately 130 acres of beach and dune habitat, strengthen coastal resilience, reduce erosion, protect critical wildlife habitat and navigation infrastructure, and support long-term environmental and economic sustainability through a multiagency collaboration.
