U Hawaiʻi Mānoa receives $5M to boost NIL funding, athlete retention, and competitiveness

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa has received a $5 million, five-year NIL commitment from a coalition of funders including Bank of Hawaiʻi, First Hawaiian Bank, Matson, Jack Tsui, and Walter Dods to boost athlete compensation opportunities. The pledges are part of an initiative to address an annual $5 million funding gap to maintain UHM’s Division I athletics competitiveness, and support recruiting and retention of student-athletes with a focus on local talent. The commitments are intended to catalyze broader community investment in NIL funding.
