$10M bequest creates endowment for nonprofits in New York’s Capital Region

The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region in Albany, New York, has received a $10 million endowment from the estate of Marjorie Kenney to establish a fund, honoring her late daughter, historian and author Alice P. Kenney. The endowment—the largest individual gift in the foundation’s history—will provide perpetual support to 10 nonprofit organizations, including the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the State University of New York at Albany. Expected to generate $400,000 annually, the fund will direct roughly half of the proceeds to nonprofits serving underserved children and families, creating a permanent source of funding for community needs across the state’s Capital Region.
