Sobrato family award $25M to San Francisco’s Tipping Point for AI job training push

John and Sue Sobrato have awarded $25 million to Tipping Point Community, the anti-poverty nonprofit founded by the current San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie, to expand AI-focused workforce retraining for low-income workers across the Bay Area. The multiyear commitment will fund reskilling cohorts, nonprofit technology upgrades, and employer-aligned career pipelines in healthcare and energy sectors viewed as more resistant to automation. Tipping Point is also partnering with Anthropic to provide AI tools and training to up to 50 nonprofit grantees as the community nonprofit pivots toward combating AI-driven job displacement.
