Retired postal worker, James O’Bannon, leaves $2M bequest to Bloomington community

James “Bert” O’Bannon has left a $2 million bequest to Indiana’s Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, creating the largest legacy gift in the foundation’s history. The retired U.S. Postal Service employee and Army veteran, who died in November at the age of 91,  directed that his estate gift support local priorities, including housing programs, the Boys & Girls Club, Second Baptist Church, and the Salvation Army. O’Bannon, a lifelong Bloomington resident known for disciplined investing and frugal living, made the gift to strengthen the community he supported throughout his life, extending his local impact well into the future.
