Martinsville, Virginia’s Harvest Foundation awards $2.5M in education, workforce and disability access initiatives

The Harvest Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million to six nonprofits serving Martinsville-Henry County, Virginia, to expand education, workforce development, early childhood services, accessibility, journalism, and historic preservation. The grants include nearly $1 million to United Way of Henry County & Martinsville for kindergarten readiness and literacy programs and more than $800,000 to Patrick & Henry Community College for paid internships placing 100 students with local employers. The foundation, established following the sale of Memorial Hospital, has awarded more than $200 million community grants since 2002.
