With $1.5B in giving to date, Ballmers launch independent foundations to expand regional economic mobility

Steve and Connie Ballmer, through the Ballmer Group, have announced the creation of three foundations—MoveUp Southeast Michigan, MoveUp LA, and MoveUp Washington—to advance economic mobility for children and families in Southeast Michigan, Los Angeles County, California, and Washington State. The organizations will be funded by the Ballmers, though no funding amount was disclosed, and will operate independently with locally led boards and leadership. The move builds on more than a decade of regional grantmaking, during which the Ballmers distributed more than $1.5 billion in grants, while enabling Ballmer Group to focus on larger national initiatives supporting economic opportunity.
