Northwestern Mutual $5.5M boosts Milwaukee schools and teachers to improve outcomes

The Northwestern Mutual Foundation has awarded commitments totaling $5.5 million to Milwaukee schools and education nonprofits to strengthen teacher-led learning initiatives and student achievement. The funding will support 307 teachers across 85 projects at 70 Milwaukee-area public, private, and charter schools and nonprofit organizations. Projects will develop new curricula, hands-on learning experiences, and classroom strategies focused on reading proficiency, health and nutrition education, technology use, and dual-language instruction. The investment aligns with growing demand from educators and aims to strengthen classroom innovation while addressing persistent academic challenges, including low reading proficiency rates.
