European Union commits €14M to UNHCR for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the European Union have announced a €14 million ($16 million) EU grant to support 1.2 million Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and nearly 70,000 host community members. The funding will sustain protection services, clean cooking access, and skills and livelihood programs to strengthen resilience and self-reliance. The grant complements EU humanitarian assistance and earlier funding, including €23.4 million allocated in January, to provide essential services and reduce aid dependency. The EU has provided nearly €1 billion for the Rohingya response since 2017, while UNHCR is seeking $710 million this year to meet critical needs.
