Frank family gifts Dartmouth $25M to expand civil discourse and free speech on campus

Dartmouth College has announced a $25 million commitment from the Frank family–Karen and Jim Frank (’65) and their son Daniel (’92)–to expand Dartmouth Dialogues, the university’s civil discourse and free-expression initiative. The gift includes a $15 million challenge grant to accelerate a broader $50 million campaign and $10 million to endow the initiative’s executive director position. The funding will support training, campus programming and a four-year framework aimed at embedding constructive debate skills throughout the undergraduate experience. The initiative has trained thousands of students and faculty and bolsters Dartmouth’s notable role as a national model for structured civil discourse and engagement and the only Ivy League school to achieve a “green light” rating from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression.
