Washington & Lee alumni contribute $23.7M in record-setting weekend event

Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, has reported record participation and giving during its annual Alumni Weekend, generating more than $23.7 million in reunion-related support. A record 760 alumni returned across classes from 1976 to 2011, from 42 states and four countries. The fundraising total includes more than $8.65 million in new gifts and pledges to the W&L Fund, alongside major class contributions including $10 million from the Class of 2001 and $8.1 million from the Class of 1976. A reported 42% of graduating seniors contributed to the the annual fundraising effort. The results mark back-to-back record-breaking reunion giving, reinforcing alumni support for the university’s capital campaign and long-term institutional priorities.
