University of Toronto receives $3.7M to boost sustainability and climate-focused education

Trinity College at the University of Toronto has announced a C$5 million ($3.7 million) gift from Brian and Joannah Lawson to expand programming at the Lawson Centre for Sustainability. The award, combined with prior Lawson commitments, strengthens the  university’s integrated sustainability initiative by embedding climate-focused research, teaching, and student life into campus operations. The center supports the development of zero-carbon facilities, including  classrooms, student housing, and food systems labs designed to model sustainable living and learning. The investment deepens a long-term philanthropic partnership aimed at accelerating climate solutions, interdisciplinary education, and campus-wide environmental transformation.
