Ontario’s Lakehead University receives $1.5M to boost scholarships and drive equitable access

Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, has announced a C$2 million ($1.47 million) award from the Joyce Family Foundation to expand access to postsecondary education. The award will fuel need-based scholarships and provide students with up to  C$22,000 ($16,100) each, distributed over four years beginning in September 2026. The investment strengthens a long-standing collaboration focused on improving equity and student success, particularly for first-generation and low-income learners. The award also anchors a broader $10 million fundraising campaign to expand scholarships across Northern Ontario.
