Cargill $10M launches Minnesota campaign to transform state fair 4-H hub and expand youth programs

The University of Minnesota Extension and Minnesota State Fair Foundation have announced a $35 million multiyear fundraising campaign to renovate the 4-H Building on the state fairgrounds in Falcon Heights and expand youth programming statewide. The effort—seeded by a $10 million lead gift from Kathy and Jim Cargill—will modernize the 85-year-old, 100,000-square-foot facility and help scale programs serving nearly 58,000 youth annually. Improvements include STEM labs, performance spaces, event housing for 700 youth, and year-round programming. Set for completion by 2027, the initiative aims to strengthen leadership, career readiness, and community engagement, boosting participation to 100,000 youth statewide.
