Green Climate Fund and partners back $74.5M long-term climate initiative for Peru’s Amazon region

The Green Climate Fund has awarded $37.5 million – with an additional $37 million in co-financing – to Peru’s Natural Legacy, Amazon & Climate initiative, a seven-year program in collaboration with the Government of Peru, Profonanpe, and World Wildlife Fund, alongside Indigenous organizations. The initiative will protect more than 37 million acres of the Amazon, strengthen 25 protected areas, and support 33,000 people with climate-resilient livelihoods. It also establishes long-term financing mechanisms expected to sustain conservation efforts and mobilize funding over a 25-year period.
