German Research Foundation commits $71 million for high-impact big science collaborations

The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) in Bonn has awarded €65.7 million ($71 million) to establish 14 new research projects and to extend seven multiyear scientific research collaborations, for up to eight years. Recipients include university-led research teams tackling topics from heart disease and AI to climate resilience, infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing. Several projects are co-funded with the Swiss National Science Foundation and Austrian Science Fund. The initiative emphasizes interdisciplinary, high-impact research designed to address complex global and societal challenges.
