USDA cancels $300M nationwide Indigenous and nonprofit farmer land grant program funding

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has canceled approximately $300 million in grants previously awarded to about 50 nonprofit, tribal, and community organizations nationwide, including recipients across multiple states, under the Increasing Land, Capital, and Market Access Program. Funded through the American Rescue Plan Act, the five-year grants, launched in 2023, were designed to help underserved farmers—particularly Black, Indigenous, immigrant, and veteran producers—gain land access, financing, and market opportunities. The canceled multiyear awards were intended to prevent land loss and expand farm ownership. Terminations halt implementation midstream, disrupting programs expected to serve thousands of farmers.
