Herbert Wertheim pays $40M for Ferrari EV at charity auction to fund education initiatives

Billionaire optometrist/inventor/long-time Apple investor/Giving Pledger Herbert Wertheim has paid $40 million at the Sotheby’s Monterey charity auction for Ferrari’s first Luce, the automaker’s first fully electric production car. The proceeds ($39.5 million above the $500,000 sticker price) will benefit the Ferrari Foundation’s initiatives supporting education programs focused on student access, STEM learning opportunities, and expanding educational resources. The full-kit Chassis 0 purchase follows Wertheim’s $26 million acquisition of a similarly appointed Ferrari Daytona SP3 at the same charity auction in 2025.
